UCBLL WELL REPRESENTED AT WORLDS

(Rochester, NY)… The 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships will have an Upstate Collegiate Box Lacrosse League (UCBLL) flavor. The event, which takes place from September 20-29 in Utica, NY, features five UCBLL players, nine coaches, four referees, and one co-commissioner.

The UCBLL is powered by the National Lacrosse League’s Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knighthawks. The league recently completed its fourth season as a National Collegiate Box Series (NCBS) member. The league features two teams in Rochester (Armory and Hawkeyes) and two teams in Buffalo (Buffaloes and Rapids).

The Czech Republic boasts the most former UCBLL players, with Armory players Pavel Srch, Lukas Kucera, and Josef Slavík participating in the international competition. The Haudenosaunee roster includes former Hawkeyes standout Koleton Marquis (pictured), while past Armory forward Liam Ferris will suit up for Hong Kong.

Current UCBLL coaches Ethan O’Connor, Zack Belter, Dalton Sulver, and Brandon Robinson will play for Team USA, while Ian MacKay will represent Team Canada. Hawkeyes coach Ryland Rees is an alternate for the Canadians. Past UCBLL bench bosses Dhane Smith and Josh Byrne will also wear the maple leaf of Team Canada. Former Hawkeyes coach Brendan Bomberry will compete for the Haudenosaunee.

In addition, UCBLL referee Joe Smith is an assistant coach with Team USA, while league co-commissioner Craig Rybczynski will broadcast games at the event. Referees John Szabo, Trent Bray, and Herbie John will officiate games.

The UCBLL is among the most successful in the NCBS circuit. Not only have teams advanced to the playoffs of the NCBS National Championships in four straight campaigns and captured the 2024 title, but the UCBLL has seen 13 of its players selected in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
